Word of Mouth Media - Get Engaged!

As most of you know, I've put the Solutionz Live show on hiatus for the summer to work "on" my business versus "in" my business. One of the things that I'm focusing my efforts on is to take what I've learned in the 100+ radio shows that I've done on Solutionz Live, plus what I've been learning in the Social Traffic course and to turn around and help others with that learning.

As you know, it is all about leaving a legacy.

Rob from Google is about to speak. They are serving cocktails, which is very Googlesque. #travelcom
Herb Kelleher is a real gentleman, a real card and quite entertaining! He is giving Henry of #Forrester a run for his money!
Herb said "If it is conventional, it is not wisdom and if it is wisdom, it is not conventional". This was a quote from an analyst.
Herb Kelleher won Steve Fosset innovator award at #TravelCom for #Southwest's accomplishments
Next up at #Travelcom CEOs of Orbitz and Trvelocity. Should be interesting. Both are new.
Executive Women's Forum at #TravelCom had a record 100 women yesterday.
"A girl's just gotta have friends" article by #Huffington Post writer Karen Leland is worth a read http://ping.fm/ur7bW
Brad's topic is "the New Normal". We are not going back.....
Brad Gerstner is talking about the economy at #Travelcom. Brad heads up #Altimeter Capital.
#GDS is Global Distribution System technology - the tech that powers booking and pricing systems
The fact that #Travelcom is talking about Twitter more than the GDS technology is a sign of the times.
Travel Industry losses are not an April fools joke (unfortunately). Cancelled meetings and conventions results in lost jobs.
Henry Harteveldt of Forrester described at #Travelcom by cochair Krista Pappa as a Tweetheart
Hotels have lost nearly $1b in the last two months from meeting/convention cancellations
We had an amazing turnout at the #Executive Girlfriends' Group (lovingly called EGG) dinner last night. What fun!
It is clearly a new era at #TravelCom
At #Travelcom in Atlanta. Dreary day but is interesting to hear Roger Dow talking about Twitter.

Walking the Talk on Thursday 3/12

Thursday our first show is always Life Balance. Tomorrow my 8 year old son has his field day at school. Anyone that knows Sergey knows that sports is his life. So missing that for the sake of doing a show on Life Balance would be TOTALLY counter intuitive.

So Thursday, if you were looking forward to listening to the show, look back over the older shows and download one to your iPod and go for a walk! It will be good for your all around health!

See you on Tuesday the 17th for the Business Edition of Solutionz Live! or next Thursday the 19th for the Personal Edition.

Have a brilliant day!

Show theme music - Legacy by Nicole Nordeman hits home with Solutionz Live founder

When I formed Solutionz Media Group and launched Solutionz Live!, I wanted to find a song and a "sign off" line for the show that would be memorable and impactful.

I started doing promotional videos for every guest on my show using a tool called Animoto.com. It is a very cool tool for those of you that haven't tried it.

They had a wide range of music and while I could generally find music that worked, nothing "fit" what I was trying to accomplish with Solutionz Live and Transition Solutionz.

A few weeks ago a friend and I were talking about where we are at in our lives and it really hit home when she said that right now we should be working at leaving a legacy, not just having a job or a career. That was it. A legacy.

That is what Solutionz Live! is all about. Not my legacy, although it would nice if it becomes that. It is about helping my listeners create their own legacy by providing real life solutions to real problems with a goal of growth. Whether you are a business person in a corporation or an entrepreneur, the show has content for professionals on business topics, social and spiritual topics and personal topics, promoting growth in all three aspects of your life.

So yesterday, when Animoto announced that they added the Gospel/Contemporary Christian Genre to their stock music available to create the promotional videos, I was so glad to find Nicole Nordeman's song Legacy.

Here are the lyrics. You can order the album too if you would like. I've provided a link to Amazon.

Legacy by Nicole Nordeman from Woven and Spun
copyright 2002 Sparrow Records

ORDER HERE

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all the who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
At such 'n such...it wouldn't matter much

I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights
We all need an "Atta boy" or "Atta girl"
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
the temporary trappings of this world

Chorus:
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love?
Did I point to you enough to make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who blessed Your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthy list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon destroy

Chorus

Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred
Just want to hear instead, "Well done" good and faithful one

Now all I need to do is find out how to contact her to ask her to be a guest on my show! (I'm working on it as we speak!)

Choose to love today. Leave your own legacy.

Thanks to Nancy, Chris and Libby for a great launch show!

We had an amazing show today. If you missed listening live, the show is available on DEMAND here on this site or on www.blogtalkradio.com/solutionzlive.

You can pause as you are listening if you don't have a single block of time to listen to the entire show or you can use iTunes to listen to the show and fast forward to the segment that you missed.
Below next to the time of the show is the minute marker on ITunes where the segment begins.

Segment 1: INNOVATION 10AM 00:00

Nancy Widmann started out her segment at 10am talking about Innovation when the sky is falling. My favorite piece of her segment was when she talked about "raising your hand" with innovative ideas. Whether you are in a corporate job, in a smaller, entrepreneurial company, you are an entrepreneur yourself or you are "in transition", this can apply to you. Think like the owner of the company and come up with ideas to innovate. It doesn't matter whether the innovation is making your own job more efficient, coming up with a new product or technology idea, a new business model, talking to a prospective employer about the things that they can do to grow their business or make it more profitable or simply a way to put customers at the center of your strategy, this approach to innovation makes total sense.

Segment 2: LEADERSHIP 1030AM 30:30

At 1030am, we shifted gears to talk about Leadership. I loved Nancy's word picture that whereas we used to aspire the corporate ladder, that ladder is now a lattice and doesn't provide the security that it once did. The top leadership issues that Nancy is facing in her coaching are morale, communicating that changes being made now are not temporary/stopgap measures but are permanent and lastly personal stress faced by executives due to unreasonable goals and pressures that are around them on both the business and personal side of their lives.

The takeaways from Nancy's segment were the need to innovate, think like an owner and an entrepreneur no matter what role you play in your company, to focus on rewards and public recognition in non-traditional ways (trophies, plaques or a handwritten thank you note) until you can get back to the place where you can grant bonuses and to drive forward an optimistic culture. The optimism can come back into an organization that focuses first on innovation and also on helping those that are less fortunate. Giving back to the community can be a great way to build morale and to bring together leadership and the rank and file during these tough times.

Segment 3: INVESTMENT INSIGHTS 11AM 1:01:15

Chris Dane and I had a great time expanding the dialogue that we began several weeks ago when we appeared on Fox Business' Money for Breakfast segment, talking about the rivalry between Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Chris and I are both travel industry investment experts with the Gerson Lehman Group, a company that matches industry experts with the investment community. Bottom line, Chris and I both believe that the cruise industry is a still a good investment, as there is still a large market to be penetrated, the companies generally have a lot of cash, there are revenue opportunities beyond the basic cost of the cruise and they have invested in expanding their fleets, while economizing where they can to conserve fuel, which is one of their top costs.

Segment 3: INNOVATION 1130AM 1:30:30

Libby Gill joined us for the last part of our show to talk about Growth through the use of branding. Libby helped us understand the 5 Branding Strategies to increase that all important "mindshare".
  1. Capture the mindshare and the market share will follow
  2. Stand out from the herd of competitors
  3. Craft a "sticky" message
  4. Broadcast your brand
  5. Expand your brand
Libby provided some very practical tips behind each of these key points. Listen in for more information. Sign up for Libby's next "Capture the Mindshare and the Market Share will Follow" 4 week program, beginning February 19th. Click HERE for more information.

Transition Solutionz Series - Show Recap #1 Tuesday 1/27/09

01/27/2009

I would like to thank Travelport for sponsoring this morning's Transition Solutionz show.

Broadcasting pioneer and branding expert Libby Gill kicked the show off at 10am and provided extremely practical advice on how to create your own personal brand and not only survive your "transition time", but to come out on the other side more fulfilled.

Libby has authored a number of books and is working on one that will be out this fall, called "You Unstuck". She is also a contributor to a new book by Martha Finney, called "Rebound".

Thanks to Libby making the introduction after the show this morning, Martha will be on our show on February 3rd at 1130am ET. Now, that's what I call social broadcasting!

Libby's top advice to those in transition:
  1. Living and breathing your brand - the first "sell" is yourself
  2. Allow yourself a 5 minute pity party, but just 5 minutes and then move on
  3. Stand out from the herd - articulate what you do better than anyone else and what you are passionate about (crafting a "sticky" message)
  4. Broadcast your brand widely through multiple media - blog, write white papers, articulating your "brand" throughout your various forms of communication
  5. Deal with your weaknesses by using them to make you memorable
Libby ended by telling us to to clarify our brand message, simply our approach (and our lives and finances) and to execute by coming up with a call plan.

We look forward to having Libby back next week to talk about branding as a key to growth during turbulent times.

At 11am we were joined by Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton, partners in life and in Courage Crafters and the authors of Go for No! This gem of a book is a very quick read, written in allegorical style. Andrea and Richard took what was originally focused on a sales tactic and masterfully tweaked their message for job seekers. Yes is the destination, No is how you get there!

Andrea and Richard told the story of how they met (Richard heard NO over 400 times in his marriage proposal to her before she said yes), and how they hit on the Go for No secret. They built on Libby's message about executing by reminding us that if we are afraid to hear NO, we may not make the first call, making up the prospective employer's mind without even talking to them.

At 1130am Lorraine Howell put the cap on the days message, building on Libby's advice, by talking about how to articulate your personal selling statement in 30 seconds or less. Lorraine is a former broadcasting executive and the founder of Media Skills Training. Her book is "Give your elevator speech a lift".

Lorraine gave us a very helpful acronym (PAR) to use in crafting a top elevator pitch:
  • Problem - state the problem that existed
  • Action - state the action you took
  • Result - articulate the result that you achieved
Make it fun (smile) and realize that the pitch is a conversation starter, not the closing argument. The goal is to get someone to say "tell me more!".

Thanks to all of our speakers today and to our sponsor, Travelport.

Transition Workshop Scheduled for January 27th and January 29th

On Tuesday January 27th and Thursday January 29th from 10am - 1pm, Solutionz Live! will host noted authors and experts on job transition for management professionals in an interactive dialogue on BlogTalkRadio. The show is Transition Solutionz!

If you have held a professional or management job and are no longer employed or have received your notice, this workshop is for you.

The subjects will include dealing with the emotional issues of your job being made redundant, what is needed to create a personal brand as you re-enter the job market, many of you after quite a few years. It will also provide resume and interviewing tips and financial management advice for how to survive the transition period. We will also talk about the non-corporate opportunities, such as short term consulting or setting up your own company and the pros and cons of such an approach.

These practical sessions will be offered complementary to those executives and professionals that are in transition. Companies that have laid off staff or are contemplating additional layoffs or outplacement firms can sponsor each session within the workshop at $1000 per session and are free to disseminate information about the free sessions to their displaced management employees.

We will be posting the detailed schedule later today, but mark both days on your calendar now. You can attend just a single session in each workshop or you can attend them all.

Follow chickefitz on Twitter to get the most up to date information, or subscribe to this blog via RSS feed. If you don't use those tools, check back here for the schedule.

Stay tuned for the launch of Solutionz Live! on BlogTalkRadio

The Solutionz Group is expanding.

You may have already seen the Executive Girlfriend's Group (EGG), which is a by-invitation-only weekly call-in program for executive women. That program is currently geared toward executives in the travel industry, but this fall will be expanding to health care, financial services, real estate and mortgage services, education, entrepreneurs and others.

We are building on the success of EGG and leveraging the wide range of speakers that we have amassed and are adding a live radio broadcast, hosted by Solutionz CEO, Chicke Fitzgerald.

Beginning the first week of February there will be multiple programs weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays initially, addressing both business and personal topics for professionals from both corporate life and entrepreneurial businesses.

On Tuesdays we will focus on business, with 30 minute shows on Innovation, Leadership, Investment Outlook, Distribution and Entrepreneurial solutions. We will feature segments with both cross-industry appeal and travel industry expertise. Over time we will bring in other hosts to conduct interviews in other industry segments, particular for the investment outlook discussions.

On Thursdays we will focus on the personal side of life, with 30 minute shows on Life Balance, Wellness, Finance and the Economy, Transition and Faith in the Marketplace.

Real solutions for real life is our tag line.

Watch for our announcement of the lineup of authors and experts on this wide range of topics.

We are launching a special series in January that will be aimed at those professionals that are in transition and needing insight from those that have been there and not only survived, but have thrived. Stay tuned to this blog for the dates of these practical workshops.

Our full February lineup will be announced late next week.
